Career as Petroleum Engineer:

Petroleum engineers explore reservoirs of gas and oil beneath the earth’s surface and develop the efficient method of bringing these to the surface. There are two ways of getting the reserves to the surface one is the drilling and the second is producing. Drilling involves making a tunnel to the oil reservoir through the network of pipes to bring the crude oil up. Under the production process petroleum engineers search for oil reserves that are already under pressure and on the verge to erupt, in case they fail to erupt, the engineers use their expertise to force the crude oil to the surface.

Petroleum engineers are involved in almost all phases of oil and gas production process, from locating the oil/gas reserves to refining and distributing it. They examine the recovered oil and gas for quality and quantity before separating the different elements found in it. They have to supervise this process, and put in place plant required for efficient working of the producing process.

Petroleum engineers examine a variety of geological and engineering data to determine the potential sources of oil. In this profession one can expect extensive travelling to different places because oil and gas sources are located out-of-the-way places, they have to often travel.

With the growing demand for fuel many innovative petroleum engineers are working on harnessing products which offer just as effective and environment friendly energy.
