Uttaranchal University comes with accolades at the Nationwide Financial Market Quiz organised by SEBI

Uttaranchal University was greeted with a laudable appreciation and a certificate of recognition by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for galvanizing Maximum Participation in the SEBI’s Nationwide Financial Market Quiz to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence under the celebratory auspices of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Law College Dehradun, Professor Rajesh Bahuguna along with two Students, Sambhav Bhatt and Jatin Pal participated and received the award on behalf of Uttaranchal University. The Quiz was predicated on strengthening financial literacy, underscoring the importance of economic awareness, and creating a financially emboldened citizenry. The event went underway on July 23-24, 2022, witnessing a raft of high-octane competitions each day at the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), Patalganga, Mumbai, Maharashtra. On the final day, Shri G P Garg, Executive Director, SEBI, gave the welcome address, followed by the special address by Shri Ashwani Bhatia, Whole Time Member, SEBI. Ms Madhabi Puri Buch gave the Inaugural and Keynote address, Chairperson, SEBI, who graced the event with her virtual presence. The competition saw earth-shattering footfalls having participation from every institution of educational prominence throughout the nook and corner of the country, including the center of excellence in IITs and IIMs. It was a moment to behold with sheer pride, resilient effort, and resounding motivation when Uttaranchal University bagged the certificate for contributing the Maximum Participation in the competition from any university. Indeed, a watershed moment and the proverbial adding of a scintillating feather in the cap of Uttaranchal University to wholeheartedly contribute to the carnival of financial education celebrated alongside the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Two Week Faculty Development Programme on “Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on Industry 4.0 and Healthcare System”

Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University organised a two-week (22 July-04 August 2022) Online Faculty Development Programme on “Artificial Intelligence and its Impact on Industry 4.0 And Healthcare System”.

The objective of the FDP was to introduce the participants to Artificial Intelligence and its impacts on the Industry and Healthcare system. This FDP allows robust collaborations between AI researchers and health practitioners to discuss socio-technological challenges and come up with state-of-the-art technology directions in the interdisciplinary field of engineering and medicine. This FDP intended to orient participants towards developing their own research plans, paying due attention to every stage of research. The FDP was attended by 141 faculty members and Researchers from pharmacy backgrounds of more than 40 different institutes and universities.

The FDP was inaugurated with the virtual curtain raising and traditional lamp lighting as a tribute to Goddess Saraswati, by our Hon’ble Chancellor, Shri Jitender Joshi, Vice President, Prof S S Sehgal, Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Dean, UIPS, Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola and HoD, Dr Amit Semwal along with the UIPS faculty members. Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola in his address note, welcomed all prestigious and renowned speakers of the FDP.

The Keynote Speaker Prof (Dr.) Kamla Pathak, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Medical Sciences, Safai Uttar Pradesh laid emphasis on the importance, need, challenges and awareness involved in the use of “Artificial Intelligence” in day to day life along with its versatile utilization in the field of academics, industry, research and in medical sciences as well. In the afternoon session, Prof (Dr) Anita Gehlot, Head, Research & Innovation, Uttaranchal University emphasized on “Healthcare 4.O”

On the second day, Dr Prashant Gehtori, Faculty of Pharmacy, Graphic Era University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, discussed  “Solving Centuries Old Drug Discovery Challenges with AI: Hope versus Hype”. The day three witnessed Prof (Dr) Vikas Anand Saharan, Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Technology, Sardar Bhagwan Singh University, Balawala, and Dehradun, Uttarakhand discussed the topic “Artificial Intelligence For Developing Pharmaceutical Formulations”. The following day’s session was delivered by Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, Sr. Production Manager Biological E ltd., Dehradun, Uttarakhand on “Is the Current Pharmacy Education System Sufficient to Make Students Succeed In 21st Century”.  The proceeding day’s deliberations by Rajendra Awasthi, Associate Professor, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) about “Application and theoretical perspectives of artificial intelligence in healthcare: An integrated approach to public health and drug discovery” enlightened the audience. On the seventh day, Mr. Raja K. Padhy, Head Operation (Plant Head) Sidmak Laboratories Pvt. Ltd, Dehradun, Uttarakhand shared his quality of information and experiences on “cGMP’s Pharmaceutical Manufacturing” while on the eighth day Prof (Dr) Jagannath Sahoo, Director, Faculty of Pharmacy DIT University Dehradun, Uttarakhand shared his valuable and informative view on “Convergence of Blockchain & Artificial Intelligence In Health Care Is Transformed to Take Advantage of Its Capabilities”.

 Prof (Dr) Rajesh Singh, Director Research and Innovation, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand discussed “PHARMATECH 4.0” on the tenth day, Prof (Dr) Sonal Sharma, Professor and Dean, Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand talked about “Practical approach to implement AI in Pharma 4.O”.  Dr Rakesh K. Tekade, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutics, NIPER, Ahmedabad discussed on “Recent Inclinations in Nanomedicine and Nanotechnology Explorations” on the twelfth day. Dr Sanjay Sharma, Vice-President & Head of Technology Transfer, Formulation Lupin Pharma Limited presented his talk on “Application of PAT and New Technologies in Formulation Process Development” on the thirteenth day.

Two Week Faculty Development Programme was concluded by the Valedictory function. The program was initiated by Dr Amit Semwal, HoD, UIPS, who addressed the gathering by congratulating all the participants for attending the FDP. He also congratulated all the eminent speakers for all the valuable input given by them in making the FDP a great success in achieving its innate objective.

Faculty Orientation Programme on Quality enhancement in Teaching and Learning

School of Applied and Life Sciences conducted a Faculty, Induction and Orientation Programme on ‘Quality enhancement in Teaching and Learning, for the newly inducted faculty members in the school on 18-19 July 2022.

The main aim of the programme is to help newly appointed faculties to understand their roles and responsibility in the new environment. They familiarize themselves with the structure, functioning, rules, regulations, and professional expectations of the institute.

The faculty members were addressed by Dean, Applied and Life Sciences, Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh who explained the importance of self-development in terms of research, punctuality in the classroom, and providing a supporting role for students as their mentors. He further distributed responsibilities to all faculty members regarding various committees and other academic responsibilities.

The new faculty members were also shown all the classrooms and laboratories in the SALS- Block and were made familiar with the ERP portal of the University. They were given instructions by their respective Program Coordinators in their respective departments. The event was coordinated by Prof (Dr) Bharti Ramola. All faculty members of SALS were present on the occasion.

Harela Festival Celebration

School of Agriculture (SOA) celebrated Uttarakhand’s folk festival Harela on 16 July 2022. The main objective of this program was to motivate the students for developing their knowledge and making an ethical connection with the cultural heritage of Uttarakhand State specifically towards the mythological connection of people with plants, improvement & preparation for new crops, and plantation of trees, Medicinal plants & Ornamental plants and their conversation. Prof (Dr) Mahipal Singh, Dean SOA explained to the students and faculty members of SOA the historical and mythological importance of Harela. He said that the word green ‘hara’, of environment, keeps the importance in our life. Harela is a Hindu festival celebrated in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The festival is celebrated on the first day of Hindi month Shravan. He said that green colour is the colour of happiness and prosperity. He motivated young students of Agriculture for upholding nature, nation, family, and forests and encouraged the students to conserve Mother Nature in every possible way. To take the event ahead the faculty members and students of the School of Agriculture (SOA) planted the saplings of medicinal plants like Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata) and White Kaner (Nerium oleander), and flowering plants like Dieffenbachia and (Carex ciliatomarginata) more and more plant, respectively in the Navgraha Vatika, SOA.

Expert panel discussion on “Blockchain in Financial Markets: Future Trending Technology”

The finance club of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, organized a Panel Discussion on Blockchain technology in the financial market – Future Trending Technology on 09 July 2022, for the students and faculty members. The inspiring academician from a top university joins a panel discussion and was discussed and depicted under the direction of Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, UIM. Uttaranchal Institute of Management’s Finance Club brought together this successful event.

The event commenced with the felicitation of Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi and panel experts. The event was graced by the presence of Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, UIM, and Dr Sonal Sharma, Dean – USCS.

Event Coordinator and Master of Ceremony, Ms Neeti Misra Assistant Professor, UIM started the discussion with the introduction of blockchain technology and its role in financial markets. with a warm welcome to all the expert panellist and briefed about their profile.

Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri delivered the Inaugural Address and explain what blockchain is, he also talks about the usage of blockchain to secure data. He covered concepts related to bitcoin. He also threw light on this technology which can be used in many ways and it’s a long way to go in the stock market. He emphasized that the session will be fruitful so he suggested all the participants to make the most out of it. The complete focus of the panel discussion was based on scalability, privacy concern and cost efficiency involved in blockchain technology and how to overcome particular limitations.

  • Dr Afzallur Rahman – He briefly explained the blockchain technology concept from the very scratch with the PPT in a simple and easy way. Which was even understood by non – technical audiences. He concluded on the question that was asked by the convenor whether it is feasible to adopt blockchain in the financial market, the answer to which was due to an enormous number of limitations in security and privacy issues, being it a costlier affair for companies it is not that easy to be adopted as seems.
  • Prof (Dr) Hanumat Sastry G- Talks about the benefits of blockchain and how it provides security to the data. He emphasized on scalability issues can be overcome with blockchain technology.
  • Dr Aman Dua – He also adds in the discussion that in order to maintain security there is a key aspect of privacy in blockchains is the use of private and public keys.
  • Dr Vinayak A – He thoroughly put a light on smart contracts, digital leaders, centralized and decentralized blockchain and security of hard earn money, cloud computing proper governance by various regulatory authorities Reserve Bank of India financial institution of India and other countries.
  • Abhishek Kumar Pathak – He explained with the help of a case study held in September 2019 London UK, a food processing app as Swiggy and Zomato in India, There was a repetition of order and payment suffered by the customer due to this technology so, privacy and security of data is must need in order to have a proper implementation of this technology.
  • Dr T Joji Rao- He considered himself to be a technocrat and was very much in favour of this technology being taken for future generations. Currently, its coupled with so many limitations.
  • CA Rubneet Anand- She assented with the other panelist on the question of whether blockchain technology is futurist or not. Being from CA she was able to highlight the tax regime on blockchain and bitcoin transactions, which the government of India is going to include in their regulatory policies, which will favorably influence the people to adopt more and more technology.

In the end, the session was concluded by all the Experts that Blockchain technology is an efficient technology and should be adopted for the financial markets. The event successfully concluded with a Vote of Thanks which was proposed by Neeti Misra and Dr Rajeev Ranjan.

Jitender Joshi, Chancellor of Uttaranchal University awarded with Jagran Excellence Award in Education

Uttaranchal University is the first & only university in Uttarakhand accredited with NAAC Grade A+. Another feather in the cap of Uttaranchal University was added when Honourable Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi Ji was awarded the Jagran Excellence Award-2022 by the gracious hands of the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Pushkar Dhami Ji on 6th July, 2022.

Dainik Jagran honoured 20 eminent personalities from varied fields for their achievements and contributions toward the betterment of society. Hon’ble Chief Minister, Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Dhami Ji said that we should always encourage each and every endeavour which is done towards the progress of the nation. He further added that behind every such endeavour only a single person is not responsible; it takes a team, a group, and a community to make things happen.

The Jagran Excellence Award in Education was given to the Uttaranchal University for its innovative pedagogy, world-class infrastructure, research-oriented curriculum, and various platforms for the holistic development of the students and for providing 3600 milieu for the overall development of the youth of the nation for the new Bharat.

Shri Jitender Joshi Ji, a visionary, anthropologist and edupreneur, who thinks and works for the progression of society received the well-deserved Excellence Award for Education on behalf of his team UU.

The School of Liberal Arts organised the sixth session of the International Lecture Series

The School of Liberal Arts organised the sixth session of the International Lecture Series on 6th July 2022 at 3:30 pm. The guest speaker of the day was Mr Scott Granville who is the co-founder and managing director of Chasing Time English, a New Zealand-based company found to provide engaging live-action narrative series with teaching and learning resources for English language educators and students around the world. He presented on the topic Confidence in Communication: Using narrative drama series to promote active learning opportunities in the classroom in which he talked about the role of television and films to make students active learners. He also showcased clips of drama series including Adrift and Fortune as teaching resources for online, classroom + blended learning environments. The session was concluded by Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean, SLA with his words of appreciation and vote of thanks. The event proved to be a great success.
