Educational Visit to Poundha organized by Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University, organised an educational field visit to Poundha, Dehradun for D Pharm I year students on 29 August 2022.

The expected outcomes of this visit were to educate and encourage the students about the role of medicinal plants and their importance. In the current scenario, about eighty percent of worldwide population relies on herbal products. The collection and authentication of medicinal plants is an important tool for research. The visit was jointly coordinated by Mr S P Bhatt, Assistant Professor and Ms Shristi Morris, Assistant Professor under the supervision of Dr. Vikash Jakhmola Dean, UIPS.

During the visit, the students collected many plant specimens like Senna, Vaska, Diplazium, Eucalyptus, Lantana, Datura, Withania somnifera, and Ricinus for their lab study purpose. Mr S P Bhatt explained in detail the taxonomic features of many plants present in the local area. Students also collected many plant specimens for herbarium. Ms Shristi Morris explained the collection time of some medicinal plants.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the visit and learned more about the technique of collection of medicinal Plants. The visit helped in inculcating scientific aptitude in the students towards plant sciences as well as caring for the environment.

Student Development Programme on “Reading is must for Management Students”

With an intention to bolster the growth of the Students and to familiarise them with the importance of reading, Uttaranchal Institute of Management (UIM), Uttaranchal University, organised a Student Development Programme session on the theme of “Reading is a must for Management Students” on 29 August 2022. This program was an endeavour to deeply enrich the knowledge of all participants and provided them with opportunities to achieve maximum effectiveness.

Dr Anupama Raina, Director, Corporate Relations & faculty of HR and Organizational Behaviour- IBS Gurgaon was present as the Keynote Speaker on the occasion, while Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, UIM was the other distinguished guest.

At the outset, Professor Suri addressed the gathering and welcomed the keynote speaker of the day. He stated that Reading is important not only for Management Students but for each and every student. He also emphasized the need of inculcating reading habits in our day-to-day life. He has shared his personal experience with the students and how the habit of reading has helped him in building his career. Later, he expressed his gratitude towards the institution and opined that this SDP will enable us to refresh and rekindle the essential communication skills and encourage students to apply these skills to enhance their knowledge.

The Speaker, Dr Anupama Raina initiated the session by dividing it into three parts: Reading part, Communication Skills and how this will help the students in their career growth and placement. She emphasized on stage fear that students faced due to lack of confidence and how they can overcome by reading and enhancing their knowledge. She discussed the increasing competition and war for talent going on in the corporate sector and directed the students on how they can survive the competition.

At last vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Rajeev Ranjan, HoD, UIM to all the dignitaries and participants. Around 110 students have attended the SDP with full zeal and enthusiasm. The entire session was detailed and anchored by Mr Shrish Singh, Assistant Professor, UIM.

Uttaranchal University celebrates National Sports Day

Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences (USCS) under the aegis of Uttaranchal University organised a Sports event on the occasion of “National Sports Day”, which is celebrated throughout India to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend, “Major Dhyan Chand”. Major Dhyan Chand Singh who won gold medals in Olympics for India in the years 1928, 1932, and 1936.

Students of USCS participated in all the activities with great zeal and enthusiasm. The above event was planned and executed by Mr Praveen Shah, Head, Sports Club, USCS.

Webinar on “Skills and Innovation in Research Writing” organised by Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences

The one-day online Webinar on “Skills and Innovation in Research Writing” was organised by Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences on 27 August 2022 to enhance the opportunities endowed to the young scholars that would improve their abilities to write research articles. Dr Rajeev K Singla, Researcher, Frontiers Science Centre for Disease-Related Molecular Network, Institutes for Systems Genetics, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu China was the resource person. The webinar was attended by more than 100 attendees including students, scholars, and faculty members of different Institutes. The Webinar was started with a welcome note by Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Dean UIPS.

Dr Singla explained how to inculcate the habit of Research in academics and process-related publication in open-access research journals like SCI and ESCI. He also emphasised being honest while conducting any research and various methods of performing the research in a triplicate manner to avoid the error. He encouraged students to make a proper laboratory notebook for writing up the observations and the key findings while performing their work. He pointed out the key mistakes done by the writers that leads to the rejection of the paper like not reading the manuscript properly, the cover letter of their work not being presentable, Title remaining over expressive, submission of research work in multiple journals at a time, putting the designation on the paper where it is not required, forgetting to mention the corresponding authors’ information properly, missing to mention the country where the research is done.  He also emphasised writing keywords, abstracts, material and method, conclusion, and references in a proper manner. Dr Singla further explained the open access journals and demonstrated how to check the authenticity of the journal, as well as to choose the journal wisely. The webinar ended with a Q&A session. The interactive session was coordinated by Dr Tarun Parashar, Associate Professor and Ms Shivani, Assistant Professor UIPS. The session ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Tarun Parashar.

Mosaic, the Cultural Club of the School of Liberal Arts organised Rangavalli

Mosaic, the Cultural Club of the School of Liberal Arts organised Rangavalli : A Rangoli Competition on the theme Festivals of India on 26 August 2022. The idea was to celebrate the unity in diversity of India through art. Teams from various schools of Uttaranchal University participated in the event and showcased their creativity and skills. Students depicted the essence of diverse festivals like Janmashtmi, Ram Navmi, Pongal, Baisakhi etc through their Rangoli Art. The School of Liberal Arts welcomed Prof (Dr) Bharti Ramola as a judge of this event. Based on criteria like originality, presentation etc, she declared the team of Sourabh Kashyap and Sakshi Gupta from BA Sem III as winners. The corridor of SLA was filled with students and members of faculty of various departments to appreciate the efforts of students. The event proved to be a great success. Dr Shravan Kumar, Dean, SLA congratulated all the participants and organisers for showcasing the ideas through colours.

International Webinar on “Advance Persistent Threat (APT) and Protection Mechanism “

USCS has organized an International Webinar on “Advance Persistent Threat (APT) and Protection Mechanism” on 24 August 2022. The Speaker of the day was Dr Nachaat A Mohamed, Assistant Professor from Homeland Security at Rebdan Academy, UAE. The Event was moderated by Mr Abhishek Kumar Pathak, Assistant Professor, USCS, he welcomed the dignitaries, Dr Nachaat and Prof (Dr) Sonal Sharma Dean, USCS as well as all faculty members and the students from the several USCS programmes BCA, B Sc IT and MCA.

Prof (Dr) Sonal Sharma, Dean, USCS inaugurated the event with a welcome note to all and highlighted the significance of cyber security and the latest malicious tools as well. The speaker of the webinar talked about the APT Life cycle in detail. Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) is a general term that refers to sophisticated and persistent efforts to breach a computing device or network. He also focused on various types of cyber attacks that are often targeted at a specific resource or user and perpetrated by very capable and well-funded attackers (for example government organizations). APT attacks can employ various attack tools and techniques that exploit known or zero-day vulnerabilities, including infected media, supply chain compromise, and social engineering.

Over 200 students of MCA, BCA and B Sc (IT) attended the same. Later, the session was concluded by Prof (Dr) Sonal Sharma, Dean, USCS, and Mr Abhishek Kumar Pathak proposed a vote of thanks.

E-Cell of Uttaranchal Institute of Management organised International Webinar on Sustainability and ESG Reporting Framework

The E-Cell of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University organized a virtual International webinar on “Sustainability and ESG Reporting framework” on 23 August 2022. The International Webinar aimed at providing appropriate knowledge about Sustainability and ESG Reporting Framework as the new equation is turning ESG theory into action.

CS A Sekar, Practicing Company Secretary, Dr Asif Akhtar, Assistant Professor, Aligarh Muslim University, Dr Akhil Prasad, Director Country Council India, Dr. Julia Swart, Assistant Professor, Utrecht University, Netherlands Dr Nirdesh Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor Pant University and Dr Rupesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, UPES were the eminent speakers for the webinar.  Prof (Dr) Rajeev Ranjan, HoD, UIM, welcomed the eminent speakers. Ms Neha Rastogi, Head E- Cell, Uttaranchal Institute of Management was the Master of Ceremony. The webinar was attended by the faculty members and the students of different programmes at UIM.

CS A Sekar initiated the session with the introduction of sustainable development and ESG concept. He said that “The Value Reporting Foundation” is an ESG guidance framework that establishes guidelines for how businesses must disclose information on sustainability that is financially significant to their investors.

Dr Julia Swart elaborated on the need for sustainability. She discussed the concept of three pillars namely PPP (People, Planet & Profit). She added that the concept of sustainability can be looked up as a long-term strategy of the company. Adding on to her views Dr Nirdesh Kumar Singh enlightened the concept of “Triple Bottom Line” which focuses on Non-financial reporting addressing the Environment, Society, and Governance.

Dr Akhil Prasad added his view on the challenges faced by the company in ESG reporting. He addressed the need of ESG reporting from an Investor’s viewpoint.

Dr Asif Akhtar shared his knowledge about the SRI concept i.e. Socially Responsible Investor. He added that in order to survive in the long run, a company must be committed to ESG reporting and must be transparent regarding its disclosures.

On the behalf of Uttaranchal University Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean Uttaranchal Institute of Management expressed his gratitude to the panelist for augmenting our knowledge about Sustainability and ESG Reporting Framework. The webinar turned out to be an interactive & informative session with great success.

Uttaranchal Institute Of Management Organises Tree Plantation Drive

Continuing with its tradition of preserving the environment and having eco friendly activities, the “Tree plantation Drive” was conducted by Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University in collaboration with NGO- JAI-Youth Wing Shri Nityanand Swami Jan Sewa Samiti on 22 August 2022 with great fervor under the aegis of Globe club of UIM. The plantation drive was carried out in Telpur near ICFAI University, Dehradun. The objective of the event was to sensitize students toward the need to preserve our environment and ecology.

Leading the plantation drive, Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, UIM, addressed the participating students and faculty members. He emphasized the critical need of taking suitable initiatives to reverse the ill effects and prevent further damage to the environment in order to ensure that we have healthy places to live for generations to come. Mr. Vinayak Sharma Swami, President, JAI youth wing encouraged students to plant more trees and take care of their plantations thereafter.

A range of 80 numerous saplings was planted by the student volunteers from different programs of UIM. The students also took an oath to plant more and more trees and encourage others to do the same. It was the dedication and enthusiasm of the coordinators namely Mr Rohit Dhiman, Mr Manish Galwan, Dr Babita Rawat, Dr Vijay Lahri, Dr Mohd Amir, Ms. Sakshi Sharma, Ms Prerna Goyal and Ms Sonakshi Bhatia, Head, Academic & Cultural who successfully completed the whole event under the support and guidance of Prof Suri.

School of Agriculture (SOA), Uttaranchal University organised an Orientation Session on Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) and Agro-Industrial Attachment (AIA)

School of Agriculture (SOA), Uttaranchal University organised an Orientation Session on Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) and Agro-Industrial Attachment (AIA) for the students of B. Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture on 22 August 2022. The session started at 11:00 am with the introductory speech by Prof (Dr) M P Singh, Dean SOA. Dr Singh welcomed Mr Rohit and Mr Saurabh representatives of UNIFIERS, Premnagar, Dehradun. Later Dr Rajendra Prasad, HoD, SOA explained in length the objectives, scope and evaluative parameters of the RAWE and AIA Training Programme which is recommended in the fourth year of the UG Agriculture Degree Programme. Afterwards, Mr Rohit gave a huge presentation on the training UNIFIERS provides to the students. It was an interactive session. Mr Rohit emphasized that after devoting four years of life students must have a clear vision of their career and the path to achieve it.  It was an interactive session. Students kept their doubts about RAWE and AIA and got solutions.

UIM celebrated ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign-2022 to mark the 75th year of India’s Independence

Har Ghar Tiranga’ is a campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to bring the Tiranga home and to hoist it to mark the 75th year of India’s independence. The main goal of the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign was to help people develop a personal connection to their country’s flag, the Tricolor. It is crucial to have a strong sense of patriotism and emotional attachment to anything national. As a result, the Government of India began the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign, from 13 August to 15 August 2022, and gave every Indian the opportunity to hoist the National Flag.

All the students of various programs in UIM have participated in this campaign and uploaded selfies with Tiranga on the portal harghartiranga.com. The students pinned a flag virtually or uploaded a selfie with the flag on the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign in the portal. The participants received certificates that demonstrate their love for the nation. The feeling of nationalism has been inculcated in the students. All the members of the faculty, UIM also celebrated the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign by raising the Tricolor across the University. The patriotic fervor and zest were visible in the air.
