Department of B.Sc Forestry

Overview:

B.Sc in Forestry is a four year undergraduate degree course that prepares students for professional career in Forest Management. This course is in high demand among the students who have interests in forests and wild life. Forestry is the science of development and management of forests by protecting, conserving and upgrading forest resources.  Under Forestry Science students are educated about forest management. The role of foresters is to manage forests so that people can benefit from this natural resource on a sustainable basis. Forests are one of the most important natural resources for us. Through this study the students are exposed to real life rural settings so that they can understand the problems of farmers and rural people and find solutions to their problems.

Infrastructure:

The Department has adequate facilities for teaching .The lab set up is well equipped which consists of  Forestry nursery; Computer lab with RS & GIS facilities; Plantation sites ; Departmental library; goods and Camping equipments.

Career Options:

Forestry graduates have many job opportunities to work in departments of forest and wildlife. They can also work with NGOs in the field of conservation and up gradation of forests. Corporate houses involved in timber plantations also need the services of Forestry graduates. They also can take up research work in public sector research institutions like Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Institute of Social Forestry and Eco-rehabilitation and Wildlife Research Institutes.  Wildlife sanctuaries, National parks, Botanical and Zoological parks also hire the services of Forest scientists.

Eligibility:

  • 10+2 examination with PCB/PCM or equivalent.
  • Minimum 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST category)

Admission Procedure:

  • Admission to B.Sc. Forestry is based on merit computed on the basis of marks secured in qualifying examination.
  • University also conducts interviews of all applicants before admitting the eligible candidates.
