The department has the following laboratories and a Seminar Hall with the latest equipments:
Engineering Graphics Laboratory & Drafting Laboratory
Technical drawing is the means by which mechanical engineers design products and create instructions for manufacturing parts. A technical drawing can be a computer model or hand-drawn schematic showing all the dimensions necessary to manufacture a part, as well as assembly notes, a list of required materials, and other pertinent information. This laboratory consists of drafting equipments and has latest software like Autocad, Pro-E and Inventor.
Applied Thermodynamics Laboratory
The principles of Thermodynamics are used by mechanical engineers in the fields of heat transfer and energy conversion. Mechanical engineers use thermo-science to design engines and power plants, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, heat exchangers, heat sinks, refrigeration, to name a few. This laboratory has Engine Test Rig, models of boilers, steam turbine working models and working models of locomotive.
Mechanical Engineering Laboratory
This is an introductory laboratory of mechanical engineering, common for all the streams of engineering. This laboratory consists of introduction on IC engine, Material Testing and Applied Mechanics.
Strength of Material and Material Testing Laboratory
Strength of Material and Material Testing Laboratory has computerized universal testing machine, Metzer microscope equipped with closed circuit camera, impact testing machine, Vickers and Brinell hardness tester, muffle furnace for heat treatment of material, to name a few.
Fluid Mechanics Laboratory
This laboratory is primarily set up for experiments on venturimeter, orifice meter, Bernoulli’s Theorem, friction losses in pipes and metacentric height, impact of jet and apparatus of surface tension.
Kinematics of Machine Laboratory
This laboratory has Whitworth Cylindrical Cam, Plate Cam, Translating and Tangent Cam Model, Kinetic Pair Models, Kinematic Gear Models, Oscillating Cylinder Model, Reciprocating Engine Model, Whithworth Quick Return Model and Four Bar Mechanism.
Dynamics of Machine Laboratory
This laboratory is equipped with Epicyclic gear train, motorized gyroscope, static and dynamic balancing machine, universal governor apparatus, coriolis component of acceleration, journal bearing apparatus, cam analyzer machine, whirling of shaft machine and electrodynamic vibration setup.
Heat Transfer Laboratory
Heat Transfer Laboratory is equipped with setups for conducting experiments related to thermal conductivity for solid, liquid and gases, Stephan’s Boltzman setup, models of heat exchanger parallel type /counters flow type/ cross flow type. Heat transfer from finned surface, heat transfer coefficient for natural and forced convection set up for emissive power of a body is also available.
This laboratory is equipped with FLEXTURN, a CNC Lathe with CNC simulator software, which helps the students to get training on sophisticated CNC machines. Students will learn to achieve perfection in production of precision components. The students are exposed to the latest manufacturing trends like CNC lathe, CNC milling with CNC simulators.
Fluid Machinery Laboratory
The laboratory is well-equipped and enables students to learn the benefits of fluid power. The lab includes experimental set-ups like Impact of Jet on Vanes, Pelton Wheel & Francis Turbine Test Rig, Centrifugal and Reciprocating Pump Test Rig with Swinging Field Dynamometer, Two-Stage Air Compressor Test Rig to understand the operation and use of different types of turbines and pumps.
Automobile Engineering Laboratory
This laboratory comprises of all types of transmission systems like clutch assembly, suspension system, steering assembly, gear box assembly, components of MPFI systems and differential unit which helps students to understand testing & trouble shooting techniques, dismantling and assembling process of engines in a much better way.
Refrigeration & Air- Conditioning Laboratory
This laboratory deals with the study and experimentation of various refrigeration & air conditioning devices such as evaporators, condensers, expansion devices and air washers. The equipments include Refrigeration Test Rig, Water Cooler, Simple Vapour Compression System, Domestic Refrigerator, Air Conditioner Test Rig and Cut Sections of different components.
IC Engine Laboratory
Internal Combustion Engine Laboratory mainly focus on engines performance, combustion characteristics of various engines by using conventional fuels, different alternate bio-fuels & Engine combustion diagnostics. This laboratory is equipped with various types of Single cylinder, Multi-cylinder Diesel and Petrol Engines Test Rigs. All the equipments are provided with digital read outs.
Measurement & Metrology Laboratory
This laboratory provides a means of assessing the suitability of measuring instruments, their calibration, and the quality control of manufactured products. This lab includes many measuring instruments like Micrometers, Vernier, Dial Gauge, Height Gauge, Telescopic Gauge, Bevel Protector, Plug Gauges, Gear Tooth Caliper, Sine Bar, Thread Plug Gauge, Radius Gauge, Screw Pitch Gauge and Slip Gauges, Dead Weight Tester, Thermocouple with Digital Multimeter, Flat plate, Surface Roughness Tester with computer interface, to name a few.
The Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering Technology CAD Laboratory provides modern facility for instruction in a variety of computer software packages.
Sampling of software includes
- Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD for computer aided design and drafting;
- Inventor and Ansys for finite element analysis,
- Working Model for kinematic analysis,
The CAD lab has 60 networked computers running Windows software. Standard and large-format laser printers support the laboratory.
