Food Technology


The Department of Food Technology was established in the year 2014 and was a part of Department of Chemistry & Food Technology under Uttaranchal Institute of Technology. In the year 2016, after the inception of School of Applied and Life Sciences, it was established as a separate department. Food Technology is an emerging field in today’s world and has gained popularity amongst students of science field.

The Food Industry is one of the largest industries in the world and needs highly trained professionals to ensure the sustainable supply, quality and safety of food and food engineering. The objective of the department is to offer courses that deal with in- depth study of various areas related to Food Science & Technology, Food Nutrition and Dietetics and enable the students to understand food composition along with its nutritional, microbiological and sensory aspects. Through the programs offered the department trains the students in the processing and preservation techniques of food items. They are also taught about the importance of safety, quality, plant sanitation of food, food laws and regulations, and packaging in food industry. The courses offered provide the students an opportunity to learn more about the advanced technologies through which they can develop their career in the right direction.

The Department of Food Technology uses its inventiveness and ingenuity to provide high-quality education and impart scientific knowledge in the field of food science and technology, which focuses on food preservation, food nutrition, food quality and safety that contribute to human and environmental wellbeing.
