Food Technology deals with the methods and techniques involved in production, processing, preservation, packaging, labeling, quality management, and distribution of food products. The course offers the students an ideal platform to apply knowledge of all pure sciences, including microbiology, physics, and biochemistry, sensory, packaging and engineering to enhance the quality, safety, functionality and nutrition of food.

About the Program:

Food industry is a major industry which requires highly skilled professionals to ensure the food quality, safety and worldwide management. The aim of this course is to provide in-depth study of various areas related to food technology that will enable the students to understand food composition, their nutritional, microbiological, processing and organoleptic aspects. This program also upskills the students in the processing techniques by in hand training in food industries. They are also taught about the importance of food plant sanitation, international and national food laws and regulations applicable in food industry.

The students of Food Technology have top notch opportunities as Food Technologists in Food Processing Companies, Research Labs and Hospitality Industry. Students can pursue post-doctoral (Ph.D.) degree that will enable them to develop novel techniques, new products and fill the gap between farm to fork in the food industry.   • B.Sc. degree in any branch of life science/Clinical Nutrition/ZBC/Mathematics/Biotechnology/Food Technology/Food Science & Technology/Microbiology/Home Science/Agriculture/Horticulture or equivalent. 50% marks for general and 45% for SC/ST category.

Admission Procedure:
  • The admission is based on merit, computed on the basis of marks secured in qualifying examination. University also conducts interviews of all applicants before admitting the eligible candidates.
  • Out of the total intake, 40% seats are allotted to students of Uttarakhand under the State Quota and the rest are open to students from all India. In case the allotted percentage of seats of State Quota remains vacant, it will be filled by All India students.
