Law College Dehradun organized its Orientation Program on 2nd August, 2019, wherein the new students were welcomed by the management of the University and faculty members of Law College Dehradun as a mark of a new beginning for all the freshers. The orientation began with a brief Inaugural Ceremony and felicitation of the guests. Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi was the Chief Guest of the occasion while Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi was present as the Guest of Honour. The event began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the recital of Saraswati Vandana followed by the University Kulgeet.
Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Principal and Dean of Law College Dehradun delivered his first official address. He in his address to the freshers extended a cordial welcome to the Devbhoomi of Uttarakhand and to the historical hall of the University. It was a proud moment that amidst the students, 45% of them were female aspirants. Students from more than 23 states of the nation opted for Law College Dehradun creating a cosmopolitan atmosphere in Uttaranchal University. Principal then proudly introduced the assets of the college, none other than the faculty members, who work tirelessly executing the vision of the University. Dr. Rajesh Bahuguna delivered a 90 minutes inspirational speech in continuance covering various aspects of college life, assimilating students to their new surroundings and building up a positive attitude amidst the student community. He also highlighted the well-stocked college library specifically mentioning the most sought after databases namely ‘Westlaw’ and ‘Manupatra’. He also explained the importance of maintaining a good attendance record of 75% and above as per the BCI norms. The students were instructed to upload their documents in NAD (National Academic Depository) an initiative by MHRD. The students were advised to focus and channelize their energy by participating in various societies like Debating Society, Legal Aid Centre, Moot Court Society, Youth Parliament Society, Cultural Society and Sports Society that are functioning efficiently in the college. His Guru Mantra for the students was ‘BHOG’ where B- stands for be honest to yourself, parents, teachers and profession, H- stands for have faith in the system in which you are involved, O-be organized in every aspect, G- for give your 100 % in whatever you do. Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, welcoming the new aspirants to LCD family, concluded his speech, stirring the young minds stating, “Law College Dehradun is a ship where Law is the religion, Constitution of India is our religious epic, Preamble to our Constitution is our prayer, teachers are our guides, Chancellor and Vice Chancellor are the parental figures and the Principal symbolizes the guiding star, guru or fatherly figure”.
Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi, in his address, motivated the students to be updated with the technologies and frame short term and long term goals. He asked the students to enroll in SWAYAM courses and derive benefit from the content framed by renowned academicians from all over the world. He also advised the students to develop an interdisciplinary approach and keep themselves abreast of the development going on in the field of law.
Hon’ble Chancellor in his inspiring speech appreciated the development and achievements of the college which has produced a series of gold medalists and 33 judges in continuance. He welcomed the students with his pearls of wisdom and urged them to inculcate professionalism and values and make the utmost of the aptly chosen educational odyssey.
Orientation-2019 was marked by sowing a Rudraksh sapling in the University premises by ‘Vasundhara – The Green Society’ symbolizing a new beginning for the students of 2019-20 batch. This was to inculcate the sense of commitment and responsibility of the students towards the environment.
All the faculty members and students of Law College Dehradun along with the dignitaries were present on the occasion. The entire program was detailed and anchored by Ms. Kanchan Anand. The occasion culminated with the recital of the National Anthem.
