Law College Dehradun inaugurated ‘5th National Moot Court Competition’ with great grandeur on 1st May, 2021 under the aegis of Moot Court Society. Carrying forward the legacy of organizing National Moot Event, this year the event focused on the grave pandemic of the century – ‘COVID-19’, ‘Constitution’ and ‘Biodiversity’. Hon’ble Judge of the Supreme Court of India Hon’ble Ms. Justice Indira Banerjee was the Chief Guest on the occasion. As per the tradition President of the Moot Court Society Ms. Anna Anu Priya declared the 5th Law College Dehradun National Moot Court Competition (LCDNMCC) open.
Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Dean of Law College Dehradun in his Inaugural Address introduced Justice Indira Banerjee, the Chief Guest of the day. He stated that the 5th Law College Dehradun National Moot Court Competition was dedicated to COVID-19 along with the Constitution of India.
Hon’ble Justice Banerjee started her address by elaboratimg on the importance of Moot Court Competitions. She emphasized that paradigm change has taken place in the present legal education and participation in Moot Court Competition for a Law student has become an integral part of the legal study. Speaking on the Moot Problems of 5th LCDNMCC, which was based on the most contemporary issue COVID-19, she expressed her appreciation towards the team for their concern over the societal issues. In her address she spoke on Central and State relationship and federal structure of the Indian Constitution. With reference to Article 47 of the Constitution of India Justice Banerjee declared “To improve public health is among the primary duties of the State”.
It was a matter of immense pleasure and pride that 22 teams from across the nation registered for the competition and after scrutiny of memorial 18 teams successfully participated in the competition. The total prize amount for the competition amounted to Rs.60,000 and trophies for the Winning & Runner-Up Team, Best Speaker, Best Researcher, and Best Memorial. Law College Dehradun takes pride in hosting such events and encouraging the budding solicitors to enhance their research and analytical skill along with the tack of advocacy.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. (Dr.) Devendra Pathak presented the Vote of Thanks. He averred that organizing National Moot Court Competition in the benign presence of Supreme Court Judge in a well-organized manner in present COVID pandemic is a remarkable achievement of Law College Dehradun.
Present on the occasion were students from different universities and colleges and the faculty members of Law College Dehradun. The event was successfully organized in online mode through ‘ZOOM’ and ‘GOOGLE MEET’. The entire ceremony was aired live through the You Tube Channel of Uttaranchal University.
