Law College Dehradun organized a National Workshop on ‘Corporate Law’ on 10th February, 2020. The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker of the day was Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Managing Partner from SK Attorneys, New Delhi. The event began with the Lamp Lighting Ceremony and felicitation of the Chief Guest. Principal & Dean Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna addressed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest. Mr. Saurabh Kumar has been practicing in various arenas of law with specialization in Transactions and Corporate Laws, Capital Markets, Corporate Restructuring, Taxation, etc. He has been advising leading global developers and marketers of various branded product on crucial and strategic decisions and various companies on establishing their business in India. He was also enlisted among ‘40 Rising Stars under 40 for 2018’ by Legal Era and also bagged the ‘Young Tax Lawyer of the Year 2018’ by Indian National Bar Association (INBA).
Mr. Saurabh began the Technical Session by speaking on Corporate Law and Governance. He briefed the students on current corporate scenario with respect to legal aspects. Basic concepts like companies and its entities, mergers and amalgamation issues were also explained. The discussion on the recent developments in the Companies Act 2013 and the difference between the Companies Act 1956 and the Companies Act 2013 was lucidly explained with slideshows which anchored the interests of the students. The speaker’s approach towards the audience, wherein he shared anecdotes taken from his personal experience, made the session even more interesting. Further, he encouraged the participants to go ahead and pursue a career of their own interest.
The workshop enlightened the students on issues relating to corporate governance, corporate culture, regulatory framework for trade, international arbitration and corporate social responsibility. His methodology focused primarily on putting students in the shoes of a Corporate Lawyer. By way of illustrations he involved the students in a given situation and discussed their probable strategies in a particular condition. This made the session highly interactive. The event was witnessed and benefitted by around 200 students from various universities of the state who had an inclination towards Corporate Law.
