Law College Dehradun successfully organized ‘Smt. Sushila Devi Memorial Intramural Moot Court Competition 2018’. The final event of the three-day competition was organized on 6th April and the esteemed jury included Former Registrar General of Nainital High Court Shri V. K. Maheshwari, Principal of the Law College Dehradun Dr. Rajesh Bahuguna and Dr. Poonam Rawat. The competition was organized under the auspices of Moot Court Society of the College. The competition witnessed the participation of 60 teams comprising 180 students. Sixteen courts were organized under the supervision of experienced judges.

The final round pleading was centered on the legality of Anti – Romeo Squad set up by U.P. Govt. and the related police actions, wherein the constitutional validity of Anti-Romeo Squad was challenged before the bench. Real court scene was witnessed during the pleadings and counter-pleadings. The petitioner contended that the setting up of Anti-Romeo squad and its modus operandi is a violation of the fundamental rights of the citizens and tantamount to arbitrary actions on the part of the government. However, the Government pleader denounced the same citing the need of moral policing and effective control.

All the team members gave their best performance and those who exemplarily executed their points were recognized.

Hon’ble Chancellor of the University Shri Jitender Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi and Director – Student Affairs and IT Services Dr. Abhishek Joshi along with the Dean and Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna gave away the Rolling Trophy and the cash prize to the winners. Hon’ble Chancellor of the University Shri Jitender Joshi said that active participation of students in the Moot Court Competition enables them to face the realities of life. It cultivates and polishes the capabilities of students.

In his address Shri V. K. Maheshwari thanked the organizers for giving him an opportunity to be a part of such a fantastic experience based on a serious subject. He appreciated the quality of pleading of the participants. He also mentioned that participation in moot court is a part of course curriculum prescribed by Bar Council of India and is compulsory for legal education.
