The Central Library of Uttaranchal University observed “World Book Day” on 23rd April, 2019 in Government Primary School, Kheri Gaon, Premnagar, Dehradun among the students of deprived section of the community. Though the Government of Uttarakhand is committed towards improving their social status by providing education through well trained and qualified teachers and through varied schemes of service like mid-day meal, scholarship, uniform distribution, computer education, to name a few, they need the emotional support of society to pull them out for surviving and thriving better in society. Besides, the provided facilities they need our help for civic engagement. Keeping this sensitive issue in mind, the Library decided to approach them at their place and spend quality time to convey the message that they are a part of society and everyone understands them. On this important day the staff of the Central Library involved with the students and distributed storybooks and asked them to read aloud. Most of the students were able to read the books and enjoyed the storytelling hour. The objective of the storytelling hour was to inculcate listening and reading habit in the students in a playful manner. At the end of the event the students, the Staff of the School and the Library Staff enjoyed a refreshment party. Dr. N.C. Uniyal, Chief Librarian, appreciated the efforts of the teachers and contribution of the Library Staff, namely, Mr. Arun Singh Thakur, Dr. Rakhi Sharma and Mr. Jai Prakash for hosting the wonderful event successfully.
