At the beginning of every Academic Year a ‘Library Orientation Programme’ is organized for the newcomers to familiarize them with library collections, services, policies, etc. It was explained to the students that the University Library is a hybrid library and holds vast printed and digital collection in various academic and allied subjects. Most of the digital contents are available to them through an independent website of the Central Library which is linked with the Website of Uttaranchal University. The Library Website comprises University as well as Govt. digital Initiatives. It was advised to the students to use the resources to enhance their reading and learning habits for overall academics and skill development. They were also informed about remote access facility to access the resources either on campus or off the campus.

The students were also informed that they can give their valuable feedback on library services, staff and other issues pertaining to the library at any time. The Feedback is completely anonymous in all respect of identification except authentication of bonafide students of the university. For authentication the student has to provide mobile number in the specified place on the form; an OTP is generated on his or her mobile phone which is registered with the record of the Office of the Registrar. If OTP is not received the student needs to get his or her mobile number updated in the record by approaching to the designated person of the Registrar Office.

The objective of the Orientation was to develop self-discipline and self-reliant habits among the students. Various other disciplinary bits of advice were also given to make them more informed for surviving and thriving in the campus with full of zeal and confidence. An Open Interactive Session with the students was also conducted wherein the Chief Librarian satisfied their other queries regarding reference service with regards to Library, Academics, Hostel, Examinations, etc.

Besides the library facilities the students were informed about students’ portal that can be accessed by the students through their login and password. All services pertaining to academics, attendance, timetable, examination, library, syllabus, previous question papers, newspaper clipping, etc. are available online to the students throughout the course. The same facility is available to the parents with a different login and password so that they can check the academic activities of their ward.

The Chief Librarian concluded the Orientation Programme with a commitment that information centered on other issues like Research Paper Writing, Plagiarism Checking Tools, etc., will be scheduled and discussed in near future.
