Uttaranchal University celebrated “National Service Scheme (NSS) Foundation Day” on Sept 24 2016, with enthusiasm and zeal. The NSS Wing of Uttaranchal University organized a special lecture on the topic “NSS: Its origin and relevance in Higher Education” for NSS volunteers of various Universities and colleges of Kashmir division.
Dr. V. K. Srivastava during his lecture discussed at length about the origin and relevance of NSS in the higher education sector of our country. He emphasized on the fact that higher education institutions need to give special attention to NSS so that more and more students are encouraged to be part of this movement. He also talked about the importance of voluntary services to address the issues faced by the society in the contemporary times.
While discussing the priority areas of intervention and the role of youth, the speaker highlighted the importance of student led movements like NSS to address the challenges faced by our country. During the course of lecture, the speaker shared some of his experiences with the NSS volunteers. The lecture was followed by a question answer session.
The organizing team was led by Dr. V. K. Srivastava and supported by other members of his team. The program was organized to acknowledge the outstanding work that NSS wing of Uttaranchal University has been doing by contributing real support and social assistance to communities in rural as well as underprivileged areas since its inception.
Honorable Vice Chancellor applauded the efforts of the NSS unit and emphasized on the vital role it plays in inculcating positive ideals and norms in the youth towards the society and channeling their inner potential for the greater good of the society. More than 100 volunteers participated in this event which included debate competitions and social service. The event was organized under the supervision of NSS coordinators.
