School of Applied and Life Sciences organizes a visit to ‘Aanganwadi’

As a part of the ongoing observance of ‘National Nutrition Week’(1-7September, 2019) a visit to ‘Aanganwadi’ of Kehri Gaon was organized by the Department of Food Technology, School of Applied and Life Sciences. This visit was aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of healthy and clean food amongst the children of aanganwadi, workers and parents.

The students of Food Technology, namely, Anchal Trehan and Ayush Bidaliya, delivered a talk on Food Safety. Gargi, Jahanvi Gautam and Manthena Krishna explained about the disadvantages of junk and packed food. Nupur Gurung, Snigdha Paul and Dhanmanjuri spoke on the importance of fruit and vegetables in daily life with the help of charts prepared by them. Arpit Rawat and Soumya told about the nutritional value of seasonal green vegetable and their products.

Thus concept of Good Health, Hygiene and Nutrition was explained to everyone present. The students of Food Technology also distributed Bananas and Biscuits to all aanganwadi kids.

The event was conceptualised by Dr. Shuchi Upadhyay Tiwari, HOD – Dept. of Food Technology with motivation and support of Prof.(Dr.) Ajay Singh, Principal-SALS . The programme was organized by the students of M.Sc. (Food Nutrition and Dietetics) 1st Sem when they noticed the ignorance about hygiene and lack of knowledge about healthy food by parents and children in Kehri Gaon.

A large number of children, Aanganwadi workers and parents from different areas of Kehri Gaon were benefitted by this programme.
