“Deliberation and Debate are the only ways you stir the soul of Democracy”. This statement by Jesse Jackson thoroughly explains the importance of Debate in any civilized educated society. We at University Polytechnic, Uttaranchal University believe in imparting the skills of rhetoric along with technical training to our students thereby preparing not only quality professionals but also developing them into responsible citizens of the country in the coming years.
Intending the same and preparing the students for the forth coming Intra University Debate Competition the Debating Society of the college organized a Debate Competition on February 15, 2020 in the Seminar Hall of the College in which students from all the branches of Second Year Diploma Engineering participated with enthusiasm.
The topic of the debate, “Should there be students’ politics in the Universities”, was finalized by the Organizing Committee Faculty Coordinator Ms. Reetu Naudiyal who selected a total of six teams comprising of two students each. The students put forward their candid views and stressed upon the need of focusing more on the studies and career development rather than getting into the power game of politics. Another view put forward in the debate was that politics should become an instrument of service to the society and therefore should be seen in a positive way.
After hearing to thought provoking deliberations the jury, comprising of Mr. Sandeep Rawat and Mr. Ankur Sharma, found it really difficult to finalize the Winners. The team of Ishika & Gaurav emerged victorious.
The event, anchored by Ms. Shefali Khatri, commenced with the recital of the “Kul Geet” and concluded with the award of certificates to all the winners and participants by the Principal of the College Dr. S. K. Shah who in his address encouraged the students with his wise words and congratulated the Organizing Team for the successful organization of the event. Following the tradition of the college the gathering departed after the rendition of the National Anthem.
