It has been very aptly said that “Your calling should be a pointer for your skill development.” It is also true that merely knowing is not enough in today’s competitive era and one needs to be proficiently skilled in his work. These were the themes which echoed in the minds of the students when the seasoned professionals addressed them. Uttaranchal College of Polytechnic conducted a ‘Career Guidance Program’ on November 15, 2018 in which Mr. Hemchand, Assistant Director, National Apprentice Training Scheme (NATS), under Ministry of HRD, Government of India was invited as the Chief Guest and Speaker.
The program, duly anchored by Ms. Shefali Khatri, started with the lamp lighting by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi along with Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, Director – UIM and Dr. S. K. Shah, Principal – UCP. It was followed by the recital of the “Kul Geet” of the University in the presence of all the Faculty Members of the college and the students. The program started with the address delivered by Dr. Shah wherein he illumined the students about the national job scenario in various trades of engineering and of the pressing need of skill development to fill the gap between demand and supply sector wise across the country.
The Chief Guest of the program gave invaluable information about the Apprentice Scheme being run at the national level by the Government of India with the active involvement of almost 25000 companies and organizations from all over the country in which students after passing their Diploma and Degree can get benefitted in many ways by one-year Apprenticeship Training in the industry as per their profiles along with stipend and an Experience Certificate. He gave an audio-video presentation to demonstrate how the students can register themselves on the official website absolutely free of cost and further enlightened the students in detail about the possibilities of getting absorbed in the same company or getting employment elsewhere.
Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, in his brief speech, gave the students inputs about Start-up India Program and its importance and informed them about how they can generate employment and contribute to the fast progress of the country by becoming job producer instead of job seeker. The Head of the Training and Placement Department Mr. Jitendra Kumar elucidated the demands and expectations of the industry by explaining and differentiating between the concepts of being trainable & employable.
The students got a huge exposure by listening to the eye-opening and thought-provoking information and knowledge through this highly successful event. Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. S. K. Shah, Principal – UCP. The event concluded with the recital of the National Anthem.
