The Department of Computer Applications, Uttaranchal Institute of Management organized a Guest Lecture on “Disruptive Innovations” for the students of MCA, BCA and B.Sc. (IT) on 10th August 2018.The Speaker for the lecture was Dr. Riktesh Srivastava, Associate Professor, Skyline University College, Sharjah, UAE and an Alumnus of IIM, Ahmedabad.
The event commenced with the recital of University Kulgeet followed by a Welcome Address by Dr. Sonal Sharma (Head-IT). Dr. Pradeep Suri (Director-UIM) felicitated and introduced the speaker and the topic of the lecture to the students.
Dr. Srivastava presented his speech in two sessions. The First Session was meant for both students and teachers whereas the Second Session was exclusively for Faculty Members on current research paradigms.
In his first Interactive Session with students, he explained the concept of disruptive innovations which is a kind of innovation that creates a new market and eventually disrupts an existing market and value network. In his lecture Dr. Srivastava discussed the common myths and ideologies of looking at the innovation. He shared his own experiences how and why innovations should be customer oriented.
He also introduced the participants to many exclusive examples and current challenges that the markets, both in India and worldwide, were facing due to disruptive innovation. He focused on the need of keeping oneself updated with the new technologies in the market and suggested three major areas to work upon: Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics and Crypto Currency. Mr. Srivastava suggested and motivated the students to develop the skills that companies look for in potential employees. He advised the students to get enrolled in online courses and learn the latest technologies. The lecture proved to be very inspiring and informative for the students
In his Second Session, he motivated the Faculty Members to do quality research and discussed various paradigms and research challenges. He personally interacted with faculty members and cleared their doubts regarding research.
He also invited the faculty members to write research articles for the upcoming conference to be organized by the Skyline University.
Dr. Pradeep Suri proposed a Vote of Thanks to the Guest of Honour and the programme culminated on a positive note.
