The Department of Computer Application of Uttaranchal Institute of Management organized an Industrial Visit to RV Technologies Software Pvt. Ltd., Chandigarh followed by an excursion to Kullu-Manali from 13th to 16th April, 2018 comprising of students from BCA, B,Sc,(IT) and MCA courses. The accompanying Faculty Coordinators included Dr. Sonal Sharma, Mrs. Pooja Gupta, Mr. Sameer Dev Sharma and Dr. Sunil Shukla. The group left for Chandigarh on 13th April at 5 am.

Industrial Visits boost classroom learning and encourage new interests amongst the students. Real-life exposure ensures that the students gains practical insight into industry operations in their respective areas of specialization. The main purpose of undertaking this Industrial Trip was to make the students familiar with the real time industrial working and also to expose them to the latest technologies.

A Brief on RV Technologies Software Pvt. Ltd., Chandigarh

RV Technologies Software Pvt. Ltd. is one of the renowned companies of north India. They have been providing IT solutions to a wide clientele diversified across 20+ countries for over 8 years. Their key areas of expertise include Website Development and Designing, Mobile App Development, Game Development, Quality Assurance, 2D & 3D Animation and Digital Marketing, to name a few.

Real Time Environment Exposure

In the first lap of the visit, the students accompanied by their faculty members were taken on a guided tour of the Company. Students were apprised of the Company, Its History, Products and Functional Operations. Students learned about the latest technologies currently needed in the IT industry. Students were also provided an exposure of the working environment therein.

Sessions on IOS and Android were delivered to students by Mr. Ranpreet Singh. He elaborated the concept of IOS and Android Operating System to the students. He also explained the Software Development Life Cycle and how it is followed in the real time environment. Students were also trained on various software testing techniques.

Practical examples were exhibited at each point so that the students could grasp the basic idea properly. Later, the students were taught how to develop an Android App. At the end, there was a Question-Answer Session arranged by the Company, in which many student queries were aptly answered. The session proved to be highly beneficial for the students.

The Second Session was conducted by Mr. Manraj Singh (Sr. Game Developer).In this session the students were informed regarding Graphics Library, Game Engines like Unity, Gimp and Blender. They were also given a Demo Session on how a game could be developed. Further, they were informed about the various websites from where they could not only learn game development but could also work on real time projects.

The Industrial Visit concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Sonal Sharma wherein she expressed her gratitude to the Coordinating Team, especially Mr. Singh, Director – RV Technologies.

Excursion to Kullu-Manali-Solang Valley

On 14th April, the group reached the beautiful Manali Valley surrounded by snow-clad high peaks. The breath-taking views mesmerized us all.

Solang Valley Trek: Solang Valley is a side valley in the top of Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, 14 km northwest of the resort town Manali, in route of Rohtang Pass. It is known as the organizing spot of summer and winter sports.. Students trekked approximately 2.5 km to the close-by summit and enjoyed skiing. This was followed by local site seeing. During evening hours the students enjoyed themselves by dancing on DJ music followed by sumptuous and delicious dinner.

Jogini Fall : On 15th April, the students headed towards Jogini Falls in the morning and trekked 2 km (approx.) towards the fall and enjoyed the fall view. It seemed the epitome of eternal natural beauty. Next in schedule was river rafting of about 14 km in the Beas River and the Parvati River (adjacent to Kullu). After the overwhelming experience the group relished delectable Himachali cuisine.

This was truly a memorable trip for the students inculcating in them new learning through joy, besides savoring mouth-watering delicacies. On 16th April, the group reported back at the college in the afternoon. The fond memories of the trip were deeply entrenched in the minds of all.
