Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organized an Educational Visit to ‘Centre for Aromatic Plants (CAP)’ Selaqui, Dehradun on February 27, 2021.
The Educational Visit was organized by Dr.Vikash Jakhmola, Dean-UIPS, and coordinated by Mrs. Alka Singh and Mr. Praveen Semwal. 42 students visited Centre for Aromatic Plants (CAP). The students were divided into two batches. The Batches were headed by the Expert Scientist Dr. S.S. Barthwal and Senior Technical Assistant Dr. S. Sagar respectively.
They explained different varieties and species of medicinal plants and also told about different medicinal use and other application of the products extracted. They told about the common name, biological source and main uses of the medicinal plants. They informed about the cultivation and collection of different parts of the medicinal plants. The visit to Medicinal Garden was very fruitful and students got good knowledge of the medicinal plants from the experts.
The Experts explained about different processes of extraction by which the aromatic oils were obtained like Hydro-Distillation Unit, Hydro-Steam Distillation Unit which helps in distillation of herbs like Lemongrass, Mint, Citronella, Palmarosa, Basil and Pilot Steam Distillation Unit for materials like roots, woods, barks of different aromatic crops like Nagarmotha, Khus, Vach.
A visit to laboratory for testing of aromatic plants, crude drugs, essential oils by the students was also conducted. Processing of different products like Lemon Grass Oil and Rose Water was explained.
The visit proved to be extremely beneficial for the students and lended information about cultivation, production, extraction process and storage of medicinal plants. The students extended their gratitude towards Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Devendra Pathak and Dean-UIPS, Dr.Vikash Jakhmola for facilitating the organization of the visit.
