The environment provides us with life-sustaining resources, is a home for many living species and maintains the balance in the ecosystem. There are many threats to the environment, such as deforestation and pollution, affecting all living beings and hence it is essential to preserve and protect it. World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ main vehicle for increasing awareness and action for environmental conservation, observed annually on June 5. It has served as a venue for raising awareness on environmental issues such as marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption, and wildlife crime since its inception in 1974.
A webinar named “Restoration of Ecosystem through Sustainable Development” was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering on 5th June 2021 to observe World Environment Day (WED)-2021 based on the 2021 theme of UN which is “Reimagine, Recreate, Restore”. This webinar aimed at raising awareness to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems on every continent and in every ocean and restore them through sustainable development. The webinar was moderated by Prof. (Dr.) S.D. Pandey, Dean- UIT, Uttaranchal University and organized by Mr. Awadhesh Chandramauli, HOD, Department of Civil Engineering and Mr. Gaurav Thakur, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering.
The Chief Guest and Key Speaker of the webinar was Prof. (Dr.) N.P. Kaushik, former Vice Chancellor, Rajasthan Technical University, Kota, Rajasthan. All the HODs, Faculty Members and the students of UIT attended the webinar.
Prof. (Dr.) S.D. Pandey- Dean UIT, after greeting Hon’ble Chancellor, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and all the dignitaries, introduced the attendees to the objectives of the webinar and threw light on the concerned topic. The attendees were then enlightened by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Devendra Pathak, which further added to the achievement of the objectives of the webinar. The Chief Guest and Key Speaker Prof. (Dr.) N.P. Kaushik spread awareness regarding various key terms, issues, remedies and the best practices to be followed related to the environmental degradation and prevention. The attendees were also explained about the ways to meet the needs of the future generations, i.e., how to work in a sustainable manner. After a Vote of Thanks from Mr. Awadhesh Chandramauli, Mr. Gaurav Thakur concluded the webinar.
