Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Uttaranchal Institute of Technology organized a one-day Workshop on “Virtual Lab” on 8th November, 2017 under the aegis of National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT) – a MHRD, Govt. of India initiative. Virtual Lab is a Remote Experimentation Platform for Science and Engineering. The objective of this workshop was to introduce the world of virtualization and trace the development of Virtual Labs. The Expert Trainers of the Workshop were Mr. Prateek Sharma and Mr. Ashish Mudgil from IIT Delhi. Prof. (Dr.) N.K.Joshi, Vice Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, inaugurated the Workshop and asserted that this Workshop will act as a motivational factor for the students and help them to utilize the maximum resources available all over the world.
The Expert Trainers shared their useful experiences and valuable knowledge with the students. One by one, they discussed all the aspects of Virtual Labs starting from the basics like the need of Virtual Labs, who can use it and the motivation behind the development of virtualization. They added that Virtual Labs are on-demand; provide integrated learning and gives freedom to make mistakes. They further informed that more than 2 million students have been trained for Virtual Lab Implementation, 1200 Workshops have been conducted, over 400 Nodal Centers have been set up all over India including IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Goa, IIT Kharagpur, COE Pune and 126 Virtual Labs have been developed till date. The students from various branches were able to learn the basics of Virtual Lab set-up and also its implementation. Step by step interactive session, computer generated presentations and live demonstration of a pre-established Virtual Lab were used in the pedagogy.
The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Manoj Diwakar, Head – CSE Department. He expressed his gratitude towards the Expert Trainers, IIT Delhi, MHRD and NMEICT for this initiative. The entire Workshop was organized by Mr. Puneet Sharma, Nodal Coordinator (Virtual Lab), CSE Department.
