Uttaranchal University celebrated the grand ‘Harela Festival – 2020’ with much fanfare and enthusiasm on 16th July, 2020. Faculty Members from all the constituent colleges of the University assembled at Kotara Santaur village of Sahaspur Block and dense plantation was executed at the venue. The programme organized under the auspices of National Service Scheme of the University witnessed intense and spirited participation of the Faculty Members of the University, particularly the Women Faculty Members of the different institutions of the University.
On this occasion, officiating Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna explained the significance and rationale of Harela Festival. “Harela is a unique festival related to nature worship. This festival is the part of different traditions and customs of Utarakhand which have been instrumental in controlling human behavior and preservation of environment”, he observed. He further maintained that as responsible human beings, we must ensure protection and sustenance of our environment by resorting to plantation of at least one tree every year.
