National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Uttaranchal University celebrated 68th Republic Day on January 26, 2017. The purpose of this celebration was not only to cherish the rich cultural heritage of India with all its diversity but to inculcate among the students an even stronger sense of service towards the community.
There were about fifty (50) volunteers of the unit who took initiative to organize the function. Hon’ble Chancellor Sir gave his consent for flag hoisting and after that many cultural activities were organized. Besides these activities, the NSS unit had organized a small camp in the neighboring village of the University campus where our volunteers met with the locals especially the youth and made them aware about the necessity of hygiene and cleanliness in the interest of the community health. A drive was organized in which the volunteers of the university did cleaning in the community. It was a welcome step by the people and there was also a campaign by the student volunteers of the NSS to donate warm clothes to the needy people.
The efforts of these students under the mentorship of the Head of the NSS, Uttaranchal University, Dr. V. K. Srivastava were widely acclaimed by the highest authorities of the University.
