Women Cell – Uttaranchal University organizes a “Presentation Session” on ‘Role of women in today’s world’ and ‘Women Empowerment’

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Women Cell of Uttaranchal University, under the aegis of the committee for “Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students”, Uttaranchal University organised a “Presentation Session” on 8th March, 2018.

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. Identifying with the theme as released by the United Nations for International Women’s Day 2018 “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives” the topics of the session were ‘Role of women in today’s world’ and ‘Women Empowerment’.

With the aim to contribute towards the objective of the day many girl students from various constituent colleges of Uttaranchal University expressed their thoughts on the above topics. They talked about how women were discriminated in every field of life and quoted the words of UN Secretary-General, António Guterres “Achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls is the unfinished business of our time, and the greatest human rights challenge in our world.” They asserted that women play a major role not only in the development of a family but also aid in the development of society. The pioneer women in varied fields of life along with well known women personalities were focused upon. The participants affirmed that Women Empowerment had created awareness regarding women rights and privileges concluding that her performance cannot be rated any less than that of men.

On the occasion, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi appreciated all the student participants for putting forward their views. Dr. Deepak Nanda, Director-UIPS, expressed his happiness on being a witness to such a significant exchange of views. Dr. Ajay Singh, Principal-UCALS, also praised the students for delivering their ideas in the form of interactive presentations and celebrating the true spirit of women.

The event was organised by Dr. Bharti Ramola, Chairperson – Committee for Prevention and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students, Uttaranchal University. Members of Women Cell (UCALS) – Dr. Poonam Negi, Dr. Suchi Upadhyay and Dr. Indra Rautela along with Ms. Khushboo M.Sc.(IC) and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Ms. Akansha Saini, the anchor for the occasion, was also appreciated for her contribution. Ms. Ruchi Parijat (B.Tech., ECE, UIT) , Ms. Adeeba Riyaz (B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology,UCALS), Ms. Priyanshi (B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology, UCALS), Ms. Shweta Singh (B.Tech., CSE , UIT) , Ms. Chetna Bisht (B.Tech., CE, UIT), Ms. Medha, Ms. Shivani & Ms. Revika ( B.Sc. (Hons.) Food Technology, UCALS), Ms. Shalini (Polytechnic Civil, UCP) gave presentation on the occasion.
